Synopsis

THE FRONT is a human story. Set against the backdrop of the Battle of Fromelles in 1916, it follows events surrounding the bloodiest battle in ANZAC history.

The story follows the journey of Arthur – an elderly man from Australia visiting Fromelles in 2010 with his son and grandson.  Interwoven is the story the Australian 5th Battalion who fought on those battlefields on the 19th July 1916.

As the various mysteries unfold, we learn that Arthur has come to find the gravestone of a lost relative who was recently discovered and identified in the Mass Graves at Pheasant Wood.  Ultimately, the devastating loss suffered at Fromelles is considered from two perspectives; firstly through the experience of the diggers and nurses who were there, secondly through the eyes of surviving relatives almost a hundred years later.
